Yellow Pages
[Verse 1]
On a shelf marked by fingerprints and recipes within,
Sat two worn books with covers, soft as grandma’s grin.
Pages curled like autumn leaves, with gold around the edge,
Every note she wrote was a tender, faithful pledge.
[Verse 2]
Next to it, a phone book, thick and heavy, too,
Names and numbers, towns and kin, lifelines tried and true.
She’d trace the lines with quiet care, searching for a cure
She’d reach up for the Word, when she needed something more.
[Chorus]
Both books held numbers, and pointed out the way,
One called out to neighbors, the other called out to pray.
So if you’re needing help in your life’s tough stages,
The line to heaven’s listed, in those faded yellow pages.
[Verse 3]
I’d watch her circle scriptures, like names she’d underline,
Coffee stains and fingerprints, a legacy in time.
She’d say, “If you need a helping hand, you know right where to look
God’s number’s always listed, here in this book.”
[Verse 4]
The Yellow Pages told you who to call when storms would roll,
But grandma’s Bible showed you how to find some peace of soul.
Both were guides for seeking help, in troubles big or small,
But only one could lift you up when you felt you’d lost it all.
[Chorus]
Both books held numbers, and pointed out the way,
One called out to neighbors, the other called out to pray.
So if you’re needing help in your life’s tough stages,
The line to heaven’s listed, in those faded yellow pages.
[Bridge]
Now the phone book’s gone to memory, and grandma’s gone too,
I keep her Bible on my shelf, the pages turning through.
Sometimes I’ll flip to Psalms or dial an old friend’s name,
And feel her arms around me, whispering just the same.
[Chorus]
Both books held numbers, and pointed out the way,
One called out to neighbors, the other called out to pray.
So if you’re needing help in your life’s tough stages,
The line to heaven’s listed, in those faded yellow pages.
[Outro]
So here’s to all the listings, and prayers that never age,
A book of names and numbers, and faith that lights the way.
When I’m searching for a lifeline, or through life’s tough stages,
I’ll find my way to Jesus, through grandma’s yellow pages.
