Jesus and Jack
[Verse 1]
Jack lives down the street, in a house with a crooked gate
He waves at every neighbor, never shows up late
He’s got a smile for strangers, a dollar for the jar
He’s never seen a steeple, but he’s got a giving heart
He’ll mow an old man’s lawn, just ‘cause it needs done
Tips the waitress double, never tells anyone
He don’t talk about forgiveness, but he lets grudges go
While I’m quoting scripture, he’s just letting kindness show
[Chorus]
Jesus and Jack, two names on my mind
One I pray to, one I see all the time
Jack don’t know the verses, but he lives out the lines
He’s more like Jesus than I’ll ever be, and it tears me up inside
[Verse 2]
Sunday morning, I’m dressed up, singing in a pew
Thinking about the gospel, but not living it through
Jack’s out fixing fences, sharing what he’s got
He don’t call it ministry, but he gives it all he’s got
I talk about salvation, I talk about the cross
But Jack forgives the world, no matter what it costs
He don’t preach about heaven, or warn about the flames
He just loves his neighbor, never asks for fame
[Chorus]
Jesus and Jack, two names on my mind
One I pray to, one I see all the time
Jack don’t know the verses, but he lives out the lines
He’s more like Jesus than I’ll ever be, and it tears me up inside
[Bridge]
I bow my head and ask the Lord,
Why can’t I walk the talk I’ve stored?
If faith is more than words and songs,
Why does Jack get it right, while I get it wrong?
[Chorus]
Jesus and Jack, two names on my mind
One I pray to, one I see all the time
Jack don’t know the verses, but he lives out the lines
He’s more like Jesus than I’ll ever be, and it tears me up inside
[Outro]
So I’ll keep praying, searching for the truth
Hoping I can learn to live a little more like you
Jesus and Jack, both teaching me
How to love my neighbor, and set my spirit free
