The Pitch Always Comes Before The Hit

# Is your song actually
good enough?

You get one honest answer from someone who has spent 30 years in the music business, the last 20 of them in the Nashville rooms where these decisions get made. If your song is ready, I pitch it to publishers, labels, artists, and music supervisors. If it is not ready yet, I tell you exactly why and what to fix.

[Get Your Song Reviewed](/songwriter-signup)[See what a review looks like](#sample-review)

$25 per song. A detailed written review. If we reach a pitch agreement, you get the $25 back.

## How do you know if your song is any good?

Your friends will not tell you the truth. Your family definitely will not. Contests and playlists do not either. A pass is silence, and silence teaches you nothing.

Every song you send gets a real critique against the six things Keith listens for: the title, the intro, the story and lyrics, the melody and top line, the chords and arrangement, and the commercial value.

It comes to you in writing, so you can sit with it and work through it line by line. Either the song is ready or it is not, and you will know which.

## If it is good, how does it get heard?

A great song sitting on a hard drive earns nothing. This industry still runs on relationships, not submission portals.

So the model here is inverted. Publishers, labels, producers, managers, and music supervisors come to a curated catalog on this site. I approve every one of them before they can listen, so I know exactly who is in there and what they are looking for.

I also see who plays what. If your song is in the catalog and it is getting played, I will tell you when there is something worth telling.

Most of those contacts are country and Christian, because this is Nashville. Real opportunities exist across other genres too.

Your song goes into the curated catalog where approved industry professionals find it, and I bring it to people directly when a project fits.

Who is actually listening

## Keith Mohr

30 plus years in the music business. In Nashville since 2003. He has run a studio, run a label's A&R desk, built one of the first homes online for independent artists, and put songwriters on Nashville stages in front of the people who sign them. When you pay for a review, this is the ear you are paying for.

### Nashville Rising Song, 2006 to 2020

A songwriter competition on major Nashville stages with industry pros judging every round. Kelsea Ballerini and Gayle both came through it. So did Jason Wyatt of The Lost Trailers.

### Global Rising Song, launched 2020

The first crowdfunding songwriter contest anywhere. Fans voted by donating a dollar a vote and the songwriters kept the vote money. Industry pros picked each winner. 22 contests, more than $225,000 raised, and rent paid for writers around the world when live music stopped.

### IndieHeaven

One of the first websites built for independent artists. Served thousands of musicians for over 20 years and was the first site to sell single-song downloads, before Apple and MP3.com.

### Studio and A&R work

Ran a recording studio in Pennsylvania where Halestorm cut some of their earliest songs. Mixed a project for Rick Derringer. Later ran Broken Records, an indie label that combined publishing, promotion, and distribution. That label is no longer operating.

Keith has had songs placed and cut by artists. These are the rooms and the track record behind the opinion you are paying for. They are not a guarantee about your song.

## What $25 actually buys

Not a score out of ten. Not a paragraph of encouragement. Here is the kind of detail that comes back on every song.

A real review. "Tied To A Twister," written by Keith Mohr.

Song title:

"Tied To A Twister"

Genre:

Country

Written by:

Keith Mohr, who runs Nashville Song Pitcher

### Title

"Tied To A Twister" is a strong, commercial title. It is visual, it is evocative, and it captures the whole song in four words. A listener knows what they are in for before the first note: high energy, a little dangerous. It sits comfortably in the modern country lane next to what Jason Aldean or Eric Church would cut. It is memorable and it is marketable, which is a harder combination to hit than most writers think.

### Intro

Verse one lands at twelve seconds. That is the pocket. Ten to twelve seconds is what you want, and this comes in right at the top of that range without wasting a bar. Nobody is reaching for the skip button, and no industry person is going to sit there waiting for the song to start. This is exactly how a commercial country record opens.

### Every review includes

- A full written review covering all six areas: title, intro, story and lyrics, melody and top line, chords and arrangement, and commercial value.
- It comes in writing, so you can re-read it and work through it line by line during the rewrite.
- A straight verdict. Pitch-ready, or not yet and here is what to fix.
- The option to send a revision back after you have done the work.

I do not promise a placement, a cut, or a hit. The honesty of the review is the promise. Reviews are final and I do not negotiate or debate a review after it is sent.

## From a songwriter

>
>
> "Thank you for the evaluation of my song Katy Bar the Door. I like that your evaluation was very specific and detailed and the tips that you provided included things that I haven't given too much consideration to. I think it was well worth the small fee that I paid. I have written many songs and I think that you may have just provided some icing for several of my cakes!"

> Eric Einhorn, Midwest Home Grown Band
